Michael Gougis:

20+ years of fueling my expertise

Michael Gougis is an award-winning investigative journalist, author and photographer. For more than 20 years, he has written about motorsports and traveled the globe reporting and photographing motorcycles, whether he is on assignment evaluating a new machine or covering the highest levels of motorcycle road racing.

Gougis began riding at the age of 20 and fell in love with performance motorcycles. On a 1984 Kawasaki GPz550 (a now-legendary middleweight sportbike), he began racing with the Willow Springs Motorcycle Club in Southern California. Racing at Big Willow, "The Fastest Road In The West," Gougis gradually honed his skills. By the time WSMC came to its end, Gougis was a multi-time class champion and a two-time class lap record holder. Since then, Gougis has raced across the western part of the U.S., competing at Buttonwillow Raceway Park, Auto Club Speedway, Chuckwalla Valley Raceway, the then-Miller Motorsports Park, High Plains Raceway in Colorado, and likely a track or two he's forgotten. And to give back to the sport, Gougis has worked with several motorcycle racing organizations, helping them grow into organizations that gave others the opportunity to experience the thrill of racing that he enjoyed so much.

As a motorcycle journalist, Gougis has ridden high-performance machines at tracks like Circuit of The Americas, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, Silverstone in England and the Autodromo do Algarve in Portugal. When not on the track, Gougis has ridden and road-tested dozens of machines, from small entry-level bikes to the biggest touring motorcycles. High-powered sport-touring machines are his favorites, and Gougis has racked up thousands of miles on the highway, crossing state lines and international borders along the way.

Gougis' depth of experience in the saddle, combined with his investigative reporting skills, allows him to develop an insight into how well a bike performs, how it hits its performance envelope and where it fits into the grand, glorious landscape of motorcycling.

"I provide honest, experienced-backed reviews that keeps riders safe and informed, not just sold."
